Our Renovation Journey: Blending Southern Charm with Modern Comfort
When we decided to renovate The Guest Lodge, we faced a challenge that many historic properties encounter: how do you modernize without losing the soul of the place? Our colonial-style building has been a Gainesville landmark for decades, and we knew that whatever changes we made needed to honor that heritage while bringing our rooms into the modern era.
The Vision
We wanted rooms that felt like a boutique hotel — stylish, comfortable, and Instagram-worthy — while maintaining the warm, welcoming atmosphere that our guests have always loved. Think mid-century modern meets Southern hospitality.
Out with the Carpet, In with the Tile
The biggest change? Ripping out every square inch of carpet and replacing it with beautiful tile and hard flooring. This wasn't just an aesthetic choice — it's more hygienic, more durable, and makes our rooms truly pet-friendly.
The effort they recently put into renovating — very cute new stylish retro appliances. The rooms feel fresh and modern while still being cozy.
Retro Appliances, Modern Function
One of our favorite additions is the retro-styled appliances in each room. These aren't your grandmother's appliances — they're brand new with modern functionality, wrapped in charming vintage-inspired designs. The mini-fridges, coffee makers, and microwaves add a playful touch that guests absolutely love.
Preserving the Colonial Character
Throughout the renovation, we were careful to preserve the architectural details that make The Guest Lodge special. The colonial facade, the manicured grounds, and the welcoming entrance — these elements tell our story.
What Guests Can Expect
Today, every room at The Guest Lodge features modern tile floors, stylish retro appliances, updated bathrooms, fresh paint and contemporary decor, high-speed WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and comfortable new bedding. We've maintained our beloved amenities — free breakfast, the seasonal pool, free parking, and our famous Southern hospitality — while giving everything a fresh, modern feel.
The response from our guests has been incredible. Our recent TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice award reflects the love and care we've put into every room. Come see the transformation for yourself.
