Gainesville History
Gainesville, GA is a city that was established as Mule Camp Springs by early settlers in the early 1800’s. In the 1830’s a gold rush began in the nearby Lumkin County and increased the number of settlers and stared a business community.
After World War 11 a businessman named Jesse Jewell started poultry industry in Georgia and since become state’s largest agricultural crop. This $1 billion a year industry has given the Gainesville the title “Poultry Capital of the World”. In 1957, Lake Lanier was constructed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers which covers more than 38000 acres.
Thanks to the early settlers and business people, today Gainesville is a town which has a lot to offer. Gainesville has a thriving business, leisure, and resident population.

LAKE LANIER OLYMPIC VENUE
HOME TO THE 1996 OLYMPICS. This venue location of Lake Lanier Rowing Club and Lake Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.
Today when you visit Lake Lanier Olympic Park you will experience so much more than rowing. Today you can relax on the sandy beach, enjoy a picnic and a good book in Fields Memorial Butterfly garden, or take a walk through the park taking in wonderful art. If you enjoy fishing, there’s a great shoreline to cast a line.
